U2 lança cover de The Pogues para álbum tributo a Shane MacGowan

O U2 lançou um cover da música “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah”, da banda The Pogues. A faixa faz parte do álbum tributo “20th Century Paddy: The Songs of Shane MacGowan”, que será lançado em 13 de novembro e conta com a participação de diversos artistas.

O disco homenageia o vocalista do The Pogues, Shane MacGowan, que faleceu em 30 de novembro de 2023, aos 65 anos. O álbum também inclui contribuições de nomes como Bruce Springsteen (“A Rainy Night in Soho”), Tom Waits (“Summer in Siam”) e Primal Scream (“A Pair of Brown Eyes”), entre outros, conforme noticiado pela BBC.

The Edge, guitarrista do U2, comentou em um comunicado de imprensa sobre MacGowan: “Shane MacGowan era cheio de contradições – e é aí que a verdade dele vivia. Ele conseguia ser preciso sobre o que importava e gloriosamente descuidado com todo o resto. Se isso soa como uma performance, talvez fosse. Mas, como Oscar Wilde disse, ‘uma máscara nos diz mais do que um rosto’.”

Pelo menos metade da arrecadação do álbum “20th Century Paddy: The Songs of Shane MacGowan” será destinada à Dublin Simon Community, uma organização que apoia pessoas em situação de rua em Dublin.

The Edge continuou: “O que ele fez com aquela voz foi notável. Ele uniu fios que não deveriam se encaixar – tradição folk, memória política, humor negro, romance – e os fez soar inevitáveis.”
